Thotawattage Laksiri Nalin Karunananda

Chanikro Travels was founded by Mr. Thotawattage Laksiri Nalin Karunananda, a tourism professional, academic, and international travel expert with over two decades of experience in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry. He studied at Saint Petersburg University in Russia and lived in Russia for more than a decade, working closely with Russian people and culture. This long-term immersion provided him with a deep understanding of the expectations, values, and travel preferences of Russian-speaking guests — a key strength that continues to shape the company’s service philosophy. Mr. Karunananda holds an MBA in Marketing from Cardiff Metropolitan University (United Kingdom) and postgraduate qualifications in Archaeology and Tourism Economics & Hotel Management from leading Sri Lankan universities. His strong academic background is complemented by extensive hands-on experience in tour operations, destination management, and international travel marketing. He has previously worked with well-established tourism organizations such as Jetwing Travels and Ceylon Safari Tours, serving international markets including Russia, Europe, and East Asia. His professional exposure also includes tourism promotion and collaboration in Ukraine, as well as participation in major international travel exhibitions in Russia and China. Currently, Mr. Karunananda holds the position of Visiting Lecturer at the University of Colombo, where he contributes to tourism-related academic programs. He is also an active member of the Sri Lanka Institute of National Tourist Guide Lecturers (SLINTGL), where he serves as the Chief Organizer and a member of the Board of Directors. Through these roles, he is directly involved in training, mentoring, and developing professional tourist guides and tourism specialists in Sri Lanka. His unique combination of academic expertise, international market knowledge, and deep local understanding forms the foundation of Chanikro Travels’ professional standards, ethical approach, and long-term vision.
